Inspiring in all seasons, it’s the perfect location in Atlantic Canada to reconnect with nature, and with yourself. In fact, La Solitude is at the heart of the UNESCO-designated Bay of Fundy Biosphere Reserve, home of the highest tides in the world!
In addition to time spent in reflection in your cabin in front of a woodstove, you can walk quietly along the trails that crisscross the site. Adirondack Chairs and benches placed in various locations invite you to sit in contemplation or meditation. In the early morning or at dusk, if you’re lucky, you might even spot a deer.

The River and the Tidal Bore
At low tide, you can walk along the shore, or sit on the large terrace of the Thabor to view the tidal bore, a rare phenomenon on the planet, and characteristic of this region.
Powered by the highest tides in the world, twice a day the tidal bore pushes against the current of the Petitcodiac River creating a wave, which is sometimes quite impressive.
In summer, hundreds of migrating shorebirds stop for a few weeks in the area to gorge themselves on tiny crustaceans buried in the mudflats, while great herons graciously await their meal.
Throughout the year, eagles and gulls hunt various species of fish in the opaque waters of the Petitcodiac, also nicknamed “The Chocolate River”. In winter, the ice moving up and down with the tides is fascinating to watch.
