Quavvik is Inuktitut for wolverine, a foraging animal that travels through many landscapes searching for food in hidden places.
Join Aaron Shantz, founder of Qavvik Wild Foods and L’Hirondelle farm to learn more about the various nutritious wild foods that are freely available, where to pick them and how to use them.
This is the second in a series of La Solitude’s Permaculture workshops that explore how to develop interlocking sustainable food producing systems that work with nature. Observing, nurturing and utilizing the wild places in our environment is part of the way a permaculturist thinks. Our indigenous forests, fields and shores provide abundant foods if we know where and when to look and how to collect and prepare them. And, very importantly, we need to perpetuate production of these wild plants through judicious harvesting and a respectful relationship.
This is not a new thing but a rediscovery and reframing of knowledge of our ancestors and contemporary traditional cultures. All that you need is a trained eye, a collection basket and some time to take a walk in the wild.
This workshop is supported by a Community Food Action Grant through the Department of Health, NB
